The girlfriend has just bought a refurbished 400d and needs some memory to go with it. She's looking at some Sandisk Extreme III CF cards on the jungle site, but i remember you need to be careful about fakes etc? Does she need to worry, or is it only the 'bay that you can have problems?

Dunno if these numbers help
# Item model number: SDCFX3-2048-902
# ASIN: B0007QU70U
Thanks :)

My Sandisk Extreme III, came in a big box + you get photo recovery software on mini CD with it + a neoprene little bag to keep the card in.

Did yours come with the same ?

Eh? No skim reading please ;)

Those numbers are quoted on the sellers jungle page. I've just read in a few threads that people have recieved fake cards from independant sellers on the jungle - might get her to give it a miss.

i been through all this myself with sandisk IV - 4gb

paid it, was cheap... and from japan, never arrived, seller was banned.
got refund, the item then came months later, but indeed was a fake.

so... i paid for a bit more and got from a uk seller.
but still a lot cheaper than the shops, and its a awsome card!

make sure you read the feedback on previous buyers. aswell as cheak the ebay tips.

there is a thread in there on sanddisk fakes. and what to look out for. :)

Yup, I was one of the people. I rejected the card and my replacement got "lost" in the post so they refunded me.

I wouldn't bother with that place. There are authorised Sandisk resellers that are cheaper but as you know I can't name them.

I'm sorry but why not buy the memory brand new?

I bought 2 x 4gb Sandisk Extreme III's for £30 per card. Hardly a lot when you compare it to your other photography equipment it's going to be used with.

Not forgetting a 2GB Ultra II (perfectly adequate for a 400D) can be got for £13.99 and the Extreme III for £17.99

Exactly, you spend all your hard earned cash on photography equipment to take excellent images, yet you risk the liability of keeping them by skimping out on the card.

Stupid imo.

Huh? She is. I won't be specific due to the rules, but she sent me a link for a good deal on the jungle site. I pointed out that it wasnt sold by the jungle site themselves, but an independant seller. It's still new, but i wanted to check if the risks were similar to that of buying on the 'bay -- which i knew of.

No one's being stupid here ;)

EDIT: Thanks for your mail, Gord.

Ah my apologies, I'm unaware of this "jungle" site.
