The thing is though I think Dreeder shoots on a 1Ds MKII which means even 4gb cards won't take that many shots

Even in Raw it's what? 10mb a pic? 400 isn't enough until you switch over? It takes less than 15 seconds to change if you have the other card in a pocket or something.

I'd agree that getting 4 * 4Gb rather than one 16Gb card is a sensible move but there's no way I'd go for generic cards for any DSLR let alone a 1 series. The write speed of anything less than an UltraII is such that you spend far too long waiting on the buffer flushing before you can shootthe next burst or change the card over.

Even 4gb in my case is only 160 shots which is not a lot if you are bracketing - might even be worth thinking about extreme IV, but they carry an extreme price for twice the speed!
I'll probably stick to extreme III ;)

Nope, im currently using 1DmkII and 5D bodies, the RAW files are normally in the 7-12mb region, which means i get about 350 shots per 4gb card...

I would consider 4x 4gb or 2x 8gb.. but I want Extreme IIIs as Im finding the UltraIIs that I have now slower than my Extreme IIIs that I used to have.

4gb Extreme III = £83 (4 = £332)
8gb Extreme III = £165 (2 = £330)
16gb Extreme III = £331

So there IMO is no advantage getting several smaller cards to one larger one. As for the Epson P2000 idea, ive got a 120gb PD70X, but id prefer to use that as just a backup.

Id hopefully never need to switch cards when out on a shot... which means there is less chance of losing one or getting it damaged.

Are the 16gb CF card prices likely to drop in the next few days? Im going to be ordering 2 this week and ive seen these at an Online Store for £331.40inc Vat...

Up until today the other store had been the same price, infact slightly more expensive when postage was included.
I'll look into this tomorrow.

It all depends on what you shoot. When I was at Donna Nook doing seal photos, I hit the limit of my 2gig card pretty quickly and had to swap to my second right in the middle of a fight between two males. I missed loads of shots because of it. Alos, changing cards was not easy as I was in full water proofs with gloves etc on as it was very cold and windy. I'd MUCH rather have less larger cards than more smaller ones as for me changing a card is not always easy or fast.

A landscape photographer would not have this problem though. In that situation smaller/slower cards would not be a problem.

Also, with bigger and bigger file sizes coming out these cards get smaller and smaller. Give it a year or so and 4gig will be the smallest size people think about I suspect!
