no, sandybridge is only dual channel, you could however use 2 of yours sticks in dual channel
you could run three sticks but they would run in single channel mode
there is no difference between the actual memory in dual and tri-channel kits but Sandy bridge only supports single or dual channel configurations.

Aye, running it at 2x2GB would be the best option as you would preserve dual channel mode.
If you want more than 4GB RAM, you could find a single RAM stick of the same (or similar) type to the current three - then run all four in 4x2GB, which also allows dual channel mode.
wouldnt two sticks run in dual channel and the final stick run in single channel?

This. Arguably though seems as hardly anything needs over 4gb your pc might run faster without the third slower stick.
