Hi guys

Just bought an upgrade,

Intel Core i7-2600K 3.40GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor with FREE Lost Planet 2 PC Game - Retail

Asus P8P67 PRO Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard - (Sandybridge)

Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-15000C9 1866MHz Dual Channel Kit

I am currently using the standard cpu cooler supplied by intel as i had no major plans to overclock.

Ive switched on the pc, and the temp of the cpu shoots up to max (88 degrees aprox) i havent touched any of the overclocking setting, but have noticed that turbo mode is on (3.8ghz) ive disabled that to bring the speed to it normal, is there anything else i can do ?

its seated correctly, ill double check, spent along time last night doing it

and the fan is spinning, i even upper the rpm in the bios

thats very high for idle temp,i thin it should be around 53-55C at most,i check you have applied tim correct, thats what i had when i used stock cooler, that is a very unsafe temp.I would reapply tim and get a aftermarket cooler asap.Dont atempt to oc at the moment with them temps.

is that 88 degrees in windows or bios? And what bios is that Asus board on? Likely its prior to the "first release" Asus list - mine was 0402 when it came, asus list 0804 as the initial release and I had no end of issues, inlcuding crazy auto voltages at default settings. 1.47v under load...

Had to manually set voltages to keep them safe until I updated the bios - but all the subsequent bioses had issues, not quite as serious as the first but still.

The stock cooler is pretty **** tbh, but if its mounted properly and is at stock (intel spec not asus crazy auto) voltages it shouldnt be anywhere near that temperature.
