What numbers could sandybridge achieve on a good water loop setup?

What do you think?

Anyone done it?

I want at least 5GHZ stable, its not recommended on air.

Well it all depends on your CPU really.

Some of early testers have been running 5GHz with less than 1.4volts on air. Forget what you are seeing on CPU-z with respect to the silly 1.16 type vcore showing. Those figures are simply not correct. The latest beta version of CPU-z is more accurate. But the temps are certainly not the issue here based on my own experience.

From what ive read its all dependent on the chip you get in terms of multiplier.

Some chips will hit a wall at the late 4ghz points and a few can pass 5ghz, but cooling and voltage make absolutely no difference to passing this wall.

Spot on.

Read somewhere in one review that SB likes heat i.e the more heat the better the overclock, although I have seen one overclocked @5.5GHZ using phase 1

would i see any gains in gaming going from my i5 750 @ 4.4ghz 2x hd 6870's ?

system is watercooled by the way here

Are there any games you're currently struggling to run? There's very little that comes close to maxing out my cpu, and yours is 500mhz faster. Unless you're playing heavily modded flight sims or something, I don't really think you're going to see much improvement in games.

Do you not monitor cpu usage whilst you game? Play some games, and see if anything can max out your i5.

such a thing as reviews try reading some

he already got a i7 930 @4.4ghz
going to sandy bridge is just a side upgrade and not really worth it

ivy bridge is a better upgrade for i7 users when it comes out

Ah for the postcount :)

I disagree, he makes a valid point. Is he struggling with his current setup? Most probably not. He is just spending money for the shake of it to be honest. His money of course but still a waste.

And I don't need to increase my post count ;)

Point taken about you not needing to increase your post count.

Was just having a bit of fun with the lad actually because he has been on a posting binge the last day or so. And I apologise to him if I have offended him at all. ;)

But really I find it quite funny that people who have never used the hardware make value judgement calls about products. If you are going to say something about a product back it up with a reference to a review or personal use. I can back up my comments because I have been using the product for a few weeks now. First last year with a Intel motheboard and some ES processors. And now my very own retail UD7. And I own X58 CPU's including the 980X.

And at the price the new CPU and chipsets are bang for bucks way better than the X58 range in my personal view based on my own needs. The CPU's clock (unlocked multi or K series) on air like a dream. They are an improvement performance wise across the board. Some benchmarks more so than others. Real world, well to be honest a P4 cpu will drive my real world needs. So that does not mean much to me. I bench. That is my hobby.

Again I apologise if I offended thecomputerguy sorry mate.
