I'm not trying to give competitors business but I was wondering why the prices of a certain sb cpu is lot higher here than some where else.

It's PC world-esque.

I know ocuk can't be competitive for every piece of component but this particular component is very popular.

Its a £30 pound difference.

One explanation is OCUK buy say a 1000 cpus at a certain price, if they then sell whats left for less, while a competitor has got a slightly better deal on a 1000cpu(including a better £-$ ratio) then they lose money.

but £30 does seem rather large difference!!!

I bought my whole SB setup elsewhere as it was way cheaper.

Processor was £25-30 cheaper

Motherboard was around £25 cheaper.

I usually buy 90% of my stuff here aswell

Just done a quick look at other prices, in stock the minimum cheapest i just found is £12 less, most are £25 less, 2500K retail cpu's

If it's an OEM SB processor, then it will be cheaper in some places. However, I've just had a look and the cheapest i-5's were OEM's. Presumably only 1 year warranty and no cooler?
I'd personally pay that bit more for the extra warranty of a retail processor and cooler. OCUK also has a very good backup by way of help etc through the forum.. that's worth quite a bit if problems arise.

It is retail we looking at, an average around £25 less for the cpu alone

I am getting my 2500K Retail for £4 less than OCUK OEM... It's a smallish company local to me too compared to OCUK.

I don't usually mind paying a few pounds more from here as I have always liked the service but there is no way I am paying so much of a premium!

Usually OCUK have pretty competative prices, whats going on?

well guys some times u just have to shop around and have to weigh up free postage against slightly cheaper prices

but op is right there are a few sites that sell some parts cheaper, like i said before its a shame OC wont price match

if they did i would never shop any where else, but the chances of this ever happening are 0 so i will always shop where I get the best deal simples

I've just checked 2 major PC part sells similar to OC... where i was comparing OEM from ocuk to retail at a competitor. I fount the competitor confusing with descriptions and 2 of the same item at a different price. Huge turn off.

I can't find it cheaper. There is only 2 people i trust to buy parts from, along with knowing RMA and service will be top class and overclockers is one of them. Maybe im biased because i live down the road... so returning faulty goods is a breeze.

Huge trust factor here.

It's probably due to ocuk buying at one price to get stock in when no one else had stock (launch is what im thinking about). Cant complain in the sense that ocuk are able to keep their promises regarding stock and delivery (and some things on the site like ram are a fair bit cheaper than competitors which means it swings in roundabouts)

You will find cheaper elsewhere no doubt, but backup/service from OcUK is second to none and well worth paying premiums for if you need it imo.

One things for sure, the cheaper places tend to have little backup once they have your money and should be looked at only if you are happy to go it alone lol.
