Hi guys,

Currently I'm sitting with a 2500k/6950 2GB/8GBDDR3 and would be thinking about upgrading to the following:

CPU: i5-6600K or i7-6700K
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15
Motherboard: Asus MAXIMUS VIII HERO ATX LGA1151
Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory
Storage: Crucial MX100 512GB & 1TB WD10EZEX
Video Card: MSI GTX 980 Ti
Case: NZXT H440
Power Supply: EVGA 750W 80+ Gold 220-G2-0750-XR
Monitor: Acer XB270HU 27" 1440p 144hz

I'm aware it's maybe overkill a little in some departments but I'm mainly looking advice on if I should possible wait a little longer to see if HMB2 does show its head in Q2 2016 (not holding my breath) or if this is enough of a power jump to buy now. The plan is to have a PC capable of pushing towards 120/144hz and the current machine just isn't cutting it.

Appreciate any comments and help, thanks.

Are there any issues with your current spec? I wouldn't consider changing as the performance difference would be marginal unless you have a clear requirement.

What's your current system spec?

I would consider getting an SSD, GPU and new monitor and see how it goes....don't wanna waste your money as I don't think you'd feel the difference.

Nothing super major in terms of problems, there's a small issue of it sometimes locking for a split second when minimizing/maximizing windows and I have a somewhat cheap MB in currently due to the original dying.

It's struggling when it comes to 1080p high settings these days and I had a thought of just upgrading the GPU but the current board in the PC is a fairly cheap replacement due to my original dying and would need to be upgraded along with the GPU for sure so I thought I might as well go the full hog.

Ideally I would love to be pushing towards 120/144 which the current PC is not capable of doing at all. I'm aware CPU increments in regards to games hasn't moved too much in the last while and the 2500k still has a good bit of kick to it but it feels like somewhat of a waste to get another Z77 chipset board.

I upgraded from a 2600k (4.3GHz) to a 4970k (4.7GHz)

Cant say I feel much difference. I had a hell of a lot of fun overclocking and generally messing around with it and I went from the worst overclocking sandbridge in the world to a decent haswell, so I feel much better about that lol.

If you wanna do it, do it, but dont expect many more, if any frames.

Don't get me wrong, I don't expect massive improvements say like the jump from Core 2 duo to Nehalem but I just wanted to weigh up peoples thoughts since it's a fair chunk of change.

I'll more than likely go the route of upgrading the current pc with a 980ti for now. Thanks for the input guys.

Like I said, it was fun, but I didn't feel any more frames.

I dont run FPS meters though, so I could tell you if there was a 10% increase or not.

If upgrading / overcooking / tech is fun to you, and you want to do it, then do it. But its not a necessity...
