...just wondering if anyone's gotten a hold of these? I've just finished a project at work here on an EVGA SR-2 with 2 x Xeon X5690's @ 4.2Ghz, and have been asked to potentially prototype the above chips for a potential large-scale implementation. Anyone got any experience with them yet, and have any thoughts on heat/temps/overclocking ability?

bit tech have got a review of them @ stock being level with quite heavily OC'd X5690's depending on what app - some they are up to 25% faster than even the OC'd X5690's, load power consumption is level with stock X5690's, but obviously much lower when compared the the heavy OC X5690's that are similar in performance (395w compared to 744w)
they do run cooler than the X5690's

from everything I've read they aren't overclockable - the mulitpliers are locked and the dual socket motherboards don't support bclk OC'ing

I stand to be corrected

Ah crap - I've heard the same in looking at a few sites today. Apparently the EVGA SR-X has the ability to overclock them, however in having the BCLK locked it's effectively screwed that idea. Hrrrmph. A shame - I was intrigued to see if I could have gotten 4.2-4.5Ghz on air out of them on air with 8/16 cores...

You can overclock the RAM for improved perf ofcourse but yeah the multiplier and straps locking virtually eliminates CPU OC.
