Im thinking of building a powerful sandybridge pc which will run high demanding 3d modelling software such as:- maya, revit, 3d studio max, adobe creative suite, autocad- architecture visualisation software

Budget - £2000

This is the spec i was thinking about:-

Intel i7 2600K
Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD5-B3
Corsair Memory Vengeance 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 1600MHz CL9 XMP
Nvidia FX1800 756mb professional graphics
Samsung 1000GB SATA-II 32MB 7200RPM (storage)
Crucial 256GB Real SSD C300 2.5inch Solid State (boot)
Blu Ray Disc Drive RW
Internal card reader
TP Link Internal Wireless Card
Bluetooth Adp
Coolermaster Atx case
Evo labs 650w modular 80+ Ps unit

As for cooling i'm unsure. DO i go for coolermaster V8 or watercooling. Looking to overclock to 5Ghz. Do i need a better case?

first thing i would say is to chuck that evo labs PSU into a fire, and get something of much higher quality. something like this will do:

you REALLY dont want to go for a low quality PSU (video is of a low quality PSU drawing exactly the amount it has been rated for)

there are other cheaper options for a 650W PSU, but i thought you would want to go modular. your spending a lot on the PC, so i guess you will want to make it tidy inside

as for the case, im not really sure. you say its a coolermaster ATX case, but there are plenty of those around (ATX is simply the motherboard size)

as for the cooler, 5Ghz on air is pretty hard to get. if you really dont want to go down the water route, you could either go for the thermalright silver arrow. in another thread there were several people saying its just about the best heatsink on the market.
or, you could go for a fully contained watercooler like the corsair H50 or another similar one. these are classed as air coolers because they need no maintenance, are prefilled and completely sealed

Careful with the choice of cooler, as it could hang over the ram slots, and the vengeance are quite tall with the heat spreader. The Thermalright Archon can be a solution, but it has other problems (quite tall, and wide of course :)). You should go with good air cooling case, like the CM 690 II, Lancool PC-K62, Silversones, CM HAF / 932, Lian Li...

Or go with water cooler like the H70, H50, Antec Kuhler 620 H2O...

And definitely upgrade that PSU to something of good quality and modular. XFX, Corsair, Coolermaster Gold, Antec... 650W should be enough for your need. Worth spending around £100 on a good PSU. If you gonna push your rig for long periods, very high efficiency can save you energy and money in the long run.

Ive decided on a Corsair H70 cooler to cool the 2600k. What about cases? Im looking at the Coolermaster 690 ii advanced, Lancool PC-K62, Coolermaster Haf/932.
Im overclocking to around 5Ghz.

Any thoughts very much appreciated.
