Howdy guys,

Im about to upgrade parts of my system and I was not planning to change my chip but shes 3 years old, overclocked to 4.4 on auto.

I was planning on buyingna motherboard to get some of the latest benifits of usb 3.0 etc.

Is it worth buying the latest processor? I see I can probably sell my old one for 120 ish.

Thanks

Keep your cpu its still performs well you would only gain approx 10% performance boost if you upgraded, what motherboard do you have, oh list your system spec please ?

Thanks for the replys

2600k oc to 4.4
Crossfire 6970
4 x 2gb corsair vengance ddr3 1600mhz
Gigabyte p67a ud4-b3
Corsair hydro h70 closed loop cpu cooler
Ocz gold 1000w power supply

Ssd and so on :)

can't you buy a usb3 extension lead? sure you can

what cpu volts for 4.4ghz? nearly all should be able to hit 4.5ghz

+1 for an extension cable and stick with the 2600k. Not worth the hassle/expense of moving to another platform as the gains are pretty small.

No idea it set to auto. When I bought it i did so much to oc it to 4.5 but it would forever crash so I stuck it to auto 4.4 and shes been fine ever since

All your thoughts are much apriciated. I need to buy a new Ssd and I wqs thinking wel might as well add some more ram, then may as well do the case, then the motherboard and its gone from there. I will put it through thr buisness so its not as expenive as it may sound.

I have gone through this three times now, one at a year old, two at two years and now.

its up to you but there's always new tech coming out

broadwell isn't far away, then there's skylake which will bring ddr4

I also have a 2600k and a 3770k and there's no difference between the two

if you could id hold out for broadwell or skylake

Samsung evo ssd is what I have, its the best thing I have ever bought.

I have caught the upgrade bug a bit, but im keeping my 2500k, it clocks amazing, not worth spending the extra money for the 10% performance increase, im thinking of getting one of them gigabyte motherboards posted by mickyflinn a few posts up, because I need the extra pci-e slots and because my Sata 3gb/s ports have stopped working on my motherboard, good job I only use 2 hdds both in the two 6gb/s ports I have lol.

also as posted above, get an extention cable, a lot cheaper than a upgrade when its not needed :)

The only real benefit I have seen from USB 3 is external hard drives are faster. I fail to see what else it has offered me over USB2, and I very rarely use external hard drives.

If it means that much to you just get a PCIE USB3 card. They're not expensive.

If you're a gamer get a new GPU. 6gb 780, if gaming is your thing.

You bought the last truly amazing product Intel released into the desktop market, now just enjoy :)
