I have my 2700K overclocked to 4.6ghz and I understand that it is normal for CPU to idle at 1.6ghz and clock up to 4.6ghz when a significant load is placed on it ... but is it normal for the CPU to clock to values in between 1.6 - 4.6 ?
Reason I ask this is that after a fairly recent BIOS update I noticed the CPU sometimes goes to say 1.8ghz or say 3.0ghz, depending on load but goes to 4.6ghz as normal when something significantly intensive is happening. Prior to this BIOS update (when I first got the CPU a year ago) I am pretty sure I didn't observe this behaviour and the CPU was only at either 1.6ghz or 4.6ghz, nothing in between. Apart from this, everything else seems normal and I notice no performance issues.
Is it normal for the CPU to clock to values in between? Maybe the BIOS changed something (all settings are the same) or a newer version of CPU-Z is giving more accurate clock readings?
