Just noticed that the 2500K is going for just over 190 quid ? I am sure it was only 160ish when i got mine in March, considering the next gen intels are due out soon, is there a reason the proces are going up, is this linked to the floods that are wrecking the HDD market prices currently ?

I'm sure there was as thread on this subject which seems to have mysteriously disappeared!

Nothing new... new's on the street is AMD are "giving in" on there PC component competitive side, which isn't necessarly true but they are moving there main focus towards other ventures, leaving Intel being able to price whatever the hell they want because they are and WILL lead the market with there current and next gen chips.

That's bad news for customers then. Why did AMD give up ? even though they were always a little behind the power curve they always seemed to give good bank for the buck at their price points ?

Well unfortunately they didnt adopt the same strategy as they did when they started to compete with gpus and nvidia. They knew they couldnt match the performance so they managed to get 90% performance for about 60% of the price.. If they had managed to do that with bulldozer then i am sure they wouldnt be in the same boat as they are now.

so bulldozer is effectively the last new model they will release and they have nothing else in the R&D pipe CPU wise ? If that's true Intel must be laughing their backsides all the way to the bank ?

Woah, woah, woah. There's some major confusion going on here. AMD is not pulling out of the CPU market, they're just not going to focus on it anymore. So there will still be new CPU models, just not aimed at beating Intel. This pretty much gives Intel dominance over the performance market however. Seeing there's nothing that can compete with Sandy Bridge, expect prices to go up and up and up...

The i5 2400K and 2500Km cpus have dropped a bit too, out of stock though and theres no oem cpus left. Also the amd 960 and 970 which went up a bit are now out of stock. Seems to me theres a bit of panic buying going on.

The OEM 2700K is now £43 less than when I bought it this morning. :(

*grumble quietly*

That happened to me when I bought a 2700K over the weekend a couple of weeks back, It dropped in price on the Monday morning, so I gave OCUK a ring and they very kindly refunded me the difference..... worth a try.

If this is true we are screwed. No competition means intel can charge what they want (prob could now anyways due to the fail of bulldozer.) Even if they still produce CPU's some1 has to try and compete with intel or dark times ahead.

+1 this is very very bad news, we need more competition to drive innovation and bring down prices or else we will be paying lots for not a lot of gain
