Wanting to go from a Q6600 to i5 Sandybridge and would appreciate some suggestions on what hardware to choose. Please feel free to advise me on any weak points and improvements.

My budget is around £500-£550 (£600 would be my max) and I currently have the following in my basket:

I will be using the 650W Corsair Modular PSU, Zotac GTX470, hard drive, and optical drives from my current system along with my monitor, mouse, and keyboard.

Never overclocked a CPU before, but wanting the 2500K to give me the opportunity to do so if required at a later date. Might go SLI at a later date so need a mobo that will enable me to do this.

Have used Gigabtye and Asus in the past but too many threads on here about customers having problems with the P8P67 series. Never used any of the other manufacturers before.

Never used or even heard of GeIL RAM before, but 8GB at that price looks a good deal.

Happy to change the case if the cooler (or one that is recommended) and 470 won't fit inside it.

Thanks Cookeh and shadow.

Will look at some reviews for the Foxconn although I do love the black look of the UD4. Worth the extra cash though just for its looks?

Well despite the MKII lite being on offer decided to stick with my original selection and should be with me on Tuesday. Was tempted by the Foxconn mobo especially as it handles SLI at the same speed, but the looks of the UD4 convinced me to stick with it. Decided to order the processor elsewhere though as a competitor has it for a cheaper price.

Thanks and will hopefully get some pictures up when it's built. First time I'm building my own system :)

Well parts arrived today (doesn't look much but using some parts from my current system as they don't need updating).

Will update the thread with more pics when I've got it fully built (won't be getting CPU till weekend) and it's all working (hopefully).

Well lots of fun I'm having. Called into my local computer shop that sells all the latest hardware yesterday and asked if they had any i5 2500K CPUs in stock. The sales assistant looks at me  and says "Never heard of them, mate". Now not only do they advertise them on their website, they were also listed in their little booklet they let customers look through to show their prices. Anyway after waiting for 20 mins whilst the sales assistant looked up the component I was after, he then had to speak to a certain someone at their other store to find if they had any in stock but this person was too busy to assist. Anyway I came out of the shop empty handed and won't be shopping with them again for awhile.

Luckily I have a friend who gets free postage with a competitor of overclockers, who has kindly ordered one to be delivered to my house and should get it on Monday.

Noticed yesterday that overclockers have dropped the price of the 2500K from £195 to £188 which is a much better price than when I bought the rest of my Sandybridge items. If the pricing was like that to begin with, I'd have my new computer built by now:rolleyes: Maybe the price has dropped because the CPU doesn't come bundled with a game anymore, but I didn't even want the game.

Well finally got all my parts built this weekend (got delayed due to the Sandybridge chipset issue). Cables are still a mess inside the case despite my best efforts though. Will get a photo posted up soon to show what I mean.

Can anyone recommend any benchmark utilities to test my new system with?

Not the best cable job you'll ever see, but not bad for a first ever attempt. The power cable resting against the graphic card was too short to be tidied behind the mobo and then out through the top. Can you get extensions?

Also since the only intake fan is next to the hard drive tray, have I got the cooler facing the wrong direction?
