Really? so 4.4Ghz @ SB = 4.4Ghz @ IB?
No that's not what I said.

Ollie is helping make my decision easier I think, and swaying me towards IB. Keep going![]()
My temps won't really change at summer time tbh. Scotland is cold as. Also 4.5Ghz is fine Temps for my 3770k maybe even 4.6Ghz

also bumped my cooler a few times probably broke the TIM seal. Have a feeling a reseat with a proper amount of TIM should drop my temps by up to 5C which is more than enough to take my prime95 temps to something I can live with
IB user that likes to keep temp in check = 4.2-4.4GHz over clock
SB user who likes to keep temp in check = 4.6-5.0GHz over clock
Remember it's not even hot weather yet, what will happen in summer time, IB user down clocks to keep temp in check?
Who cares for IGPU? not many gamers that's for sure.
If you can save some money go SB, if you don't care to save any money then get IB but it's well known to run hot and I imagine come summer there will be a few down clocking.
Bit of a hijack, but ive got a SB I2500K that is at 4.2GHz it does clock higher but i keep it at this fairly decent O.C. Now I have a Z77 mb and want to get another PC built using my old board and another CPU. I was looking at CPU upgrases and i can get a I7-2600K for around £30 less than the I7 3770K and an i5 3570K for around £50 less than the I7 2600K. Now I will be overclocking to at least the same as my old SB, the question is would the upgrade from I5 to I7 be worth it and in the same way would going from Ivy from Sandy bridge also be worth the upgrade? I have a corsair H60 with dual fans so cooling isnt to bad, mostly use the PC for Gaming so im not sure the HT in the i7s is actually going to help.
You can always send it back if you aren't happy with it anyway and buy a Sandybriodge.
Good advice.
The other thing to ask yourself when deciding is "would I really notice the 3-5% increase in performance if I were to clock the IB at the same speed as the SB ?" And like you just mentioned "Will I really benefit from the IGPU being more powerful ?"
I'll say again, SB is cheaper (~ £30) and a Gelid Tranquillo will cost ~£25. Keeps my SB (4.6ghz) at much less than 70 degrees under load, and doesn't make a lot of noise, even flat out. I'll live with the possible 5% loss in performance and lack of PCIE 3.0. The £50 saving might be spent on a new case, or maybe towards a larger SSD.
IGPU's are very useful when your graphics card fails (like mine has) really don't see why anyone would buy old tech given the options of the new >.> the price difference isn't even that big a gap to bother with. If you have the money your going to spend it anyway. Why not gets what is new.
I get what your saying. I had no budget I spent all my student loan xD I generally back up why IB for none SB users is the one to go forI am also without a graphics card at the moment, and the HD3000 is doing just fine. No, I wouldn't "game" with it, and neither would I with a HD4000 if I had chosen an IB.
I take your point about spending the money you have anyway, but I have limited funds, so I try to get the most for the £ that I spend. I decided that IB did not offer enough over SB for the extra it would have cost. No, there's not a lot in it, but I have saved ~£50, which I can spend elsewhere on my system if I choose. Had IB offered a 20% performance increase, and required the same type of cooling to as SB to achieve that increase, I'd now be an IB owner.
I'm not saying that SB is for everyone, and I can quite see the appeal of buying the "new tech". I just think that there's been too much "IB is the obvious choice" advice. As I say, IB would be the obvious choice if it offered a decent increase in performance over SB, but it appears (at the moment) that it does not. For someone with no intention of overclocking, I think I'd advise IB over SB, simply for the slightly lower power consumption and better IGPU performance (which a non-overclocker is more likely to use 24/7).
