sandybridge vs ivybridge

i have an i5 2500k clocked 24/7 @ 4.7 i have the chance of replacing the SB and mobo as my son will have it so what CPU should i get i have the funds for either i5 or i7 IV/SB?

if you can spare the cash Id go for an i7. if you plan to keep your PC for 3-5 yrs at least. if your upgrading at broadwell might be better with an i5.
 
yep thinking of the i7 3770k but i dont do much in terms of using the hyperthreading only general desktop stuff and bit of gaming so might aswell get the i5 but then it aint much improvement to what i got now,arghhh dunno what 2 do
 
thinking im gonna get the i5 and spend the extra on the GPU dunno how long it will last tbh i get that awful itch only had this pc 5-6 months
 
ahah. Grab the i7. Just turn HT off if you want to have 4.6/4.8 OC and avoid the itch... though I tried avoiding it then got drunk and spent all my food money on a basic barebone IB build. oopsy :rolleyes:

Try applying some thermal paste, it might cure the itch.

If that fails, just buy some new kit, and some new shoes for the wife.

BTW. Isn't Ivy supposed to cause a rash/itch ? Similar symptoms to *****ly heat. ;)
 
Yeah I am I probably won't. It depends I might just have a really bad chip. :p would be gambling if I DSR'ed it could end up with something worse. Ive got about another week left if I feel like DSR'ing but if I DSR I won't have a PC for quite some time which is bad as I need a PC for assignments atm.
 
Not yet. think OCUk are sending the TIM out tommorow so Ill do it wedsnday. Have a feeling since core 1 runs 10C lower than every other core I could see up to 10C in imporvement but Im guessing it's more likely 5-8C which would make me much happier ^.^ if I turn HT off my temps would drop by 10C but wheres the fun in not having 8 threads? :D
 
Ikr ikr xD it rarely gets used since Im running on HD4000 graphics since I haven't gotten my ENGT240 to work yet. Once I do Ill try building light in Unreal Editor (usually causes every PC Ive ever used to crash) :p
 
Ahah I have some pics of my build (mostly cable management and such) on a thread the Alpenfohn when it's mounted is approx the top half of my motherboard xD
