Just a quick question... Is there a "wall" on each chip which you can't clock past, or is it just a matter of amping up the voltage and trying to keep it cool?
ie, some people claim not to be able to get 4.7ghz stable (for example), is it just that the chip won't go past that? or they have insufficient cooling to handle the voltage required to break it?

Different chips overclock differently.

Considering the i5-2500K.

One chip might overclock to 5GHz on relatively low voltage.

Another chip might not go any higher than 4.5GHz no matter how much voltage you use.

Most chips will fall somewhere in the middle.

It's luck of the draw.

Ah, i knew some clocked better with lower voltages - just wasn't sure if there was a definitive wall for each chip or if it was just a matter of voltage.
