Yeah... another spec check topic. I hate these... but here i am.

Antec P182
Asus P5Q-E P45
G.Skill 2x2gb PC2-8000
Sapphire 4850 512mb
Corsair TX 650W
WD Caviar 640gb AAKS
Thermalright Ultra 120
Noctua NF-P12 (for the cpu cooler, naturally)

All of that to be paired with a Q9450, which I already have.

I'm not sure about the cpu cooler (is a tuniq tower much better?) or the fan, as I'm going for something that's quiet but will let me overclock the cpu to death if i turn the fan speed up.

Also not sure about the psu or the ram... might not be the best value but i've heard their good enough.

Feel free to criticise my choices and mock me for wussing out with the 4850. :D

u wuss why get the 4850 get the 4870 you know u want to :D

looks fine, ultra+fan vs tuniq are very close so no real issue with either.

check the samsung f1 640gb disk.

Thermalright Ultra 120 swap this for a tuniq tower 120 it's about 1-2 c better than a tuniq so not really worth the extra cost.
Corsair HX 520W will be plenty for a long time if you are not going xfire or sli which it doesn't look like if your set on p45.
+ I am sure you can get cheaper ram than that I'd imagine any ram capable of 500-550mhz would be enough even the ballistic pc 5300 can do 500 so 8x 500 = 4ghz

Hmm... so im thinking of running the Q9450 at around 3.2ghz most of the time. I guess then I only need 800mhz memory to get the best out of it then.

I know nothing of DDR2 though... my head is still DDR1. I didn't think DDR2 memory would overclock so well... all the same binned chips i guess. Feel free to recommend something better.

I would get the 520W ... but there is that little spectre of hope of a 2nd cheap 4850 even with the few % drop from x8 crossfire. And then theres Nehalem...

Depends tbh, If the OP is willing to Lap his Ultra then its certainly a lot more than 1 - 2c better than the TT

If you are doing 3.2ghz then bog standard pc6400 ram is fine the multiplier is 8x on that chip.
It's so cheap can just sell it on when you make the move to ddr3.
Yea I mean when the tuniq is on special which it seems to be all the time more or less so if it's £10 cheaper makes sense to get it.
