Hey All,

I've not built a PC for a few years and I am looking to replace my eGPU set up with something dedicated. Please can someone sanity check that I've not missed any required items and the build is compatible?

  • CPU - 3900 XT - £479
  • Case with AIO CPU Cooler + SFF 650w Gold PSU - NZXT H1, Black, Mini ITX - £299
  • Memory - Corsair Vengeance RGB 32GB (2 x 16GB) - £149
  • SSD - 1TB Corsair Corsair Force MP600 PCIE4 - £188
  • Motherboard - ASUS ROG Strix x570 - £289
GPU wise I'll be using my existing 5700xt that I use in my eGPU box until new cards come out.

Thanks!

What exactly is the build for?

Is it just gaming or do you also intend to use it for work purposes, and if so what?

The build will work together with the exception I think of the motherboard given you're using an ITX case, but there's a lot of money spent that simply isn't necessary.

Or is that the X570-I Gaming ITX board?

The corsair rgb pro ram is 51mm in height, the case supports ram Maximum Memory Height of 45mm.

Alternative

CORSAIR VENGEANCE LPX BLACK 32GB (2X16GB) 3600 MHZ AMD RYZEN TUNED DDR4

purely for gaming, including for flight simulator. I use my MacBook for work.

the ITX version.

Not much point in the 3900XT over the 3900X, honestly you'd probably be fine with a 3700X but there are one or two titles that will make use of the extra threads so it's dependent on what you play.

Cheaper RAM that will work just as well unless you want the bling, you might be fine with 16GB but again it depends on what you play and I'd argue 32GB will do you well for the future.

Motherboard isn't in stock currently but is a solid saving, it's worth checking with OCUK to see when it'll be back in stock.

Great price on the SN550 NvME, for gaming purposes you will not be able to tell the difference between it and the more expensive drive you're looking at.

I'd go for 3900X over XT. Can be had for ~£400 odd so that's £80 saved.

Aorus Elite is more than good enough VRM, wouldn't bother with Aorus Pro mobo, further £60 saving.

Gen4 isn't worth it either imo, I'd stick with WD SN550 for £96 or so. Another £90 saving.

£230 saved for little to no performance loss.

All ordered and due for pickup Monday.

Anything else I should need for a build apart from standard house tools

would have gone for Aorus AIO over NZXT , slightly better . Also that NZXT case is starved for Airflow !

There are four things:
1. The ram clearance is too small on the H1 Mini
2. The Motherboard is an ATX and the Case is a Mini ITX
3. GPUs are only going to get bigger (see rtx 3000 leaks) and so the H1 Mini might not fit the new GPUs
4. There is no need to get a motherboard that expensive, save £120 and get the MSI B550 Tomahawk, it will work perfectly with the 3900XT... Then you can put that saved money towards a new GPU when they are released!
