Sanity check On Overclock Please.

Just bought myself a Powercolour X1800XT 512MB card from OcUK and was just wanting to touch base with others who have this card. My other system components are A64 3500+ @stock and 2GB Corsair XMS3200 TwinX.
I've had a go at overclocking this card using the CCC overdrive and with the stock cooler have managed to get it up to 680/790. At these clock speeds 3dmark2006 is stable as a rock (4063 3dmarks) and I haven't noticed any tearing or artifacts in Oblivion, CS:S or Tombraider Legend. I'm getting temps underload upto 80deg and was wondering if this was a good overclock, a safe temp to run this card at and whether that 3d2006 mark seems about write for my set up?
It's certainly a marked improvement over my XT850XT PE and it's nice to be able to run games with sm3 and HDR at reasonable FPS :D

I may have a go at overclocking my CPU next and really trying to get the most out of this card ;)

No-one able to help :(

Suppose I'll have to try another forum  maybe the avforums they always seem to be a helpful bunch :p

I've got an X1800XT too, my benchmark scores are in my sig if you want comparisons and were all taken at stock. My CPU is not as good as yours, and my card is 256MB not 512MB, but they're there if you need them.

Seems like your card is overclocking just fine. Should try sticking a Zalman VF900-CU on it. :) 80ºc is a normal load temperature for this card, which is why I plan to stick one on it.

Thanks for putting my mind to rest I thought 80deg was miles too high but if it's OK I'll keep it at these speeds for gaming. :D My XT850 never went above 60deg.

Yeah, my GTO² never went over 62ºc with some pretty silly overclocks. I knew I was to expect high temperatures with the X1800XT, but I wasn't expecting near boiling-point. :D Going to put a VF900-CU on mine next week. :)

Could you let me know what temps you're getting when you've fitted it please to see if it's worth a purchase thanks ;)

On an X1800XT you can expect the temps to drop by 20ºc for both load and idle temps. Bringing it down to 40ºc idle and 60ºc load. :) This information is from some VF900-CU benchmarks I saw a while ago using an X1800XT.

Might be worth a purchase then but is it worth losing your warrenty for the sake of 20deg if your card runs stable with the stock cooler? I'd be filling my pants too on the first time I'd have to switch the card on after fitting the new cooler lol. :p
