Please have a quick skeg at my watercooling basket; it's my first time getting my feet wet, and want to double check that I'm not going to run into any troubles, particularly with regards to fitting and tubing sizes.

I hvae made maybe 2 posts previously about going water-cooled, but had to put it off due to IRL things like buying a house and just generally being an adult .

But it's my birthday sunday, and the missus is going halfs with me :D

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £373.41
(includes shipping: £11.10)

Also, ignoring the CableMod bits; is there anything I could save a bit of cash on and not loose much performance. Also, I have to ask, what should I use as a coolant, and would I need something like a kill coil in there?

Just realised that the pump/res combo is now out of stock. Recommendations on a replacement? I'd like to order today ideally so I can have a play at the weekend!

Thanks for your input!

Thanks for the input! I wouldn't have had a clue about the tubing so glad that I asked!

The waterblock I'm set on. It gorgeous and goes with my build :D the only thing I'm a bit concerned about is drainage as mentioned, as I probably will add a 240 rad and my gpu into the mix later on.

For now though how does this look?

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £283.90
(includes shipping: £11.10)

I already have some suitable 140mm fans, and a 280 rad is the largest I can fit in the front so I figure I may as well get the larger rad now (since my 3770k can run hot when I add volts to it - which I plan to do as the frequency does scam well on my chip with moar volts) and then drop a 240 in the top later on.

Also from the research I've done the d5 is the stronger pump and also is quieter - if anyone can advise otherwise or comment further here feel free!

I know I mentioned cost, but I don't mind going for the better performance kit right now as I'm only paying half, unless we're looking at silly amounts of money!

Drainage I can manage with the single port on the bottom (?) of the rad, it will be fairly easy to get the rad hanging out the front of my case while it drains into a buck underneath

The rad ports will be lower, as I'll be pulling the rad out of the front of the case (where it will be mounted) so I don't have to mess about inside, which makes it a lesser risk of spillage onto hardware.

I'm going for clear atm, I might consider a pastel colour in the future but I really think a clear coolant is going to work for my needs. Once I pick up the windowed side panel too I'll take some money shots for you all :)

Thanks everyone!

Mister Turnip!

Looks good m8, yes yes post pics while installing I'm interested to see :)

Will update thread on friday/saturday with piccys :D

Anyone got a spare windowed side panel for a fractal r4 they want to donate?

Hope I don't drown my PC right before Fallout 4 comes out, don't fancy playing it at lowly 1080p on a 750ti on the htpc lol.

Just got my confirmation of delivery tomorrow; care package incoming to work! I was worried I might have missed the cut-off!

The guys out in the front of our dept. must hate me, there's a couple of senior managers there and they are always bringing me my parcels through hahaha. About twice a week on average I'd say

Just realised that those rotary fittings are black nickel :( I meant to change then over to plain nickel inkeeping with looks of the rest. Bugger!

Have posted in cust servs but I think it may be too late!

quick question, the bracket in this image that the pump/res i bought is attached to, should that have been in the box? Because it isn't, and I need one.

Since it's in the product images on ocuk, and in the included in the box bit says mounting clip included and mounting mechanism included i would have assumed that this was in the box.

cheers uncle petey! It's kinda funny calling someone else that as I'm getting quite used to hearing it myself :)

Also whats the general consenus on washing kit out before use? is vinegar really neccessary still, or can I just blast a few gallons of council pop through the parts before use?

Are there any implications to be had by mounting that rad horizontally, across the bottom of my case? If it can be done, then that kills two birds with one stone for me: I can keep my intended push/pull and I don't have to wait for the bracket issue to be sorted, which I still haven't had a reply on much to my dismay.

A lot of people run their rads at the bottom with no issue so i guess it will be fine although never tried it myself. For screws just google rad case fan mounting screws and something will come up.

right that settles it then, I will have this done before fallout 4 launch, mark my words!

I'm gonna start uploading some pics soon, there's not much going on atm, just some prep and cleaning, and I've started putting the main cablemod cables in just so there was something to do.

Well I went the Imgur route instead, as there are other people I'll be sharing my adventure with.

*BE WARNED THERE ARE SWEARIES* Mods, please delete the link if I can't link out to swear words on text, I'll edit it later (the imgur) if this is the case.

And forgive my terrible picture-taking abilities; the lighting in our spare room is terrible and it's been cloudy and raining all day here so no decent sunlight either.

BTW, don't know if you noticed but on your mainboard Southbridge, that Shiny section actually comes off quite easily and leaves a very nice all blue heat sink

I've had this board for nearly 4 years and never knew this! I'll pick it off and have a gander.

Just missed a Royal mail delivery this morning of the rest of the tubing I need, I didn't think it would come today so I didn't bother getting up early, so got my little red ticket of disappointment to trade in lol. Going to grab some more distilled water and some screws today, not much else. Maybe some more cable management.

On another note, the retailer I bought my windowed side panel off has cancelled the order, stating "incorrect credentials supplied", whatever that means. That peed me off a bit tbh. Useless gits.

Well I can't seem to find the pics I was on about, but I have updated the Imgur; please feel free:

As for the mess-ups I mentioned (I used the c-word for willy previously and it got starred out; it's not an expletive used in this context is it?):

What happened was, first, I broke the strap/bracket thing holding the pump/res combo; it was really to easy to break so beware if you're going with this kit: I took it off to re-position the res so you could see the "EK" logo-thing when looking down into the case via the window (which I don't have as I can't find it in stock anywhere, and the few places that do have it in stock cancel my order as they DON'T ACTUALLY HAVE IT). Annoying as hell as I have to wait for that money to go back into my account each time :(

I bent the strap bit, not very far or with much force at all and *snap* - gutted. Managed to superglue it back together - if you look closely in the pics you'll see the crack.

Also, the extra tubing I ordered was the wrong size. I discovered this maybe 2 hours after breaking the res clip, and raged like a hormonal teen. I'd had enough; I flung the tubing up above my head and slammed it into the ground as hard as I could - as I did this, it created a whip effect with the loose tubing which cracked quite hard (and loud) on my exposed back (I was just about to shower!) and boy did that hurt!

i managed to use the now non-essential tubing to create my filler tube friend thingy, So I won;t be retuning it as I cut it. I'm sure it'll come in handy for something.

Also, After the first test-mount of the rad and the res, I found that I did have enough space for push-pull - only to find after actually successfully mounting both (had trouble with the radiator, ugh!) that this wasn't the case - I hadn't fixed the rad in when I measured on the test fit, turns out I'm about 5mm short for fans on the inside. The additional fans will be coming this week; I might pop one in as I can fr it on the topmost mount, not sure how good (or not) that would look though.

All in all, I learned a few things during this experience; the most important one being that decisions made in haste will come back to bite you in the ass. But then I already knew that.

Also, don't watercool in the Define R4; just buy a new case, it will be much easier in the long run!

Thanks for listening to my rambles!
