I've stuck with my videologic Sonicfury since my old Thunderbird 1.4 rig, but I'm now upgrading to Conroe and will have the Gigabyte DS3 onboard sound as an alternative... It uses intel "high definition 8 channel audio"

Shall I give up on the old PCI soundcard, or will it still offer better sound quality?

EDIT: corrected grammar garbage.

Thanks for your input guys. I'll see what I think when I get the rig set up. Not too concerned about performance of either card - it'll be a conroe rig, so the tiny amount of FPS dropped by one sound solution isn't worth worrying about too much.

I watch lots of DVDs, and at the moment my soundcard has analogue out to my AV receiver (Denon 1906, connected to some Kef speakers). This might warrant a nicer sound card or a dedicated DVD player, but I haven't got the cash for that any more. But I also play too many games, and it's quite handy being able to multitask dvd watching and MSN/work with only one audio input.

Oh, and hello Bledd! Long time no speaky on MSN.

Mmmm - we've definitely msn'd since the UC and lovely pictures bit. Pity you didn't get any during operation photos - it's all the gorier when you're scrubbed in to surgery and there's blood squirting... Will pester you next month - I should have a little more time free :)
