Behind you... Naked!
Just a simple one.

I got one of these cards, I have just bought my first SLI Mobo ( MSI K8N Platinum ) and I was wondering if I got another X800GTO, will they SLI?

SLI is for nVidia cards like 6600 / 6800 / 7800 / 7900 series of cards. You cant run 2 ATi cards on a SLI motherboard.

ATi version of SLI is Crossfire. Like SLI you need a Crossfire motherboard. As said above you would need a master card. X800 / X850 variety card to run your X800 GTO in Crossfire I think.

You can Crossfire, X800 / X850 / X1800 / X1900 series of cards.

Also, the X800GTO must be PCI-e to be able to crossfire... but i think theres only pci-e crossfire motherboards so it wouldnt work anyway

you say you can use either an x800 or x850 master card.

i was told that you can only use a card from the same family, ie;

any x800 card has to have an x800 master

any x850 card has to have an x850 master

I don't think there is an X800 mastercard, I was just saying it to cover all bases. ;) The X850 mastercards will work with X800 GTOs though, they underclock to the same speeds etc. to match the difference.

Either way, it's not going to happen on an SLi motherboard. Needs a Crossfire chipset to work.

Thanks for all the replies guys...

So, the answer is no then?

Never mind, sods law.

I am sure that I have already read this, but then again, probably not.

I was intending on going SLI some time, but not really all that vital... It was more of a wanting to see what it does rather than actually needing it... I still have a pair of Voodoo 2 cards that I have chucked into a TB1400 for kicks and they still work FFS!!! - Really useless fun these days... Have to runWin98 in that cos I never managed to get 2K/XP to SLI with those.

This thing with Master GFX Cards is new to me though!! I need to do some homework on that... I suppose its the same for SLI no matter what?

Has anyone got any news on the S3 PCIe Card yet? I have a review from a couple of months ago, and there was somethign about them being able to SLI on any Mobo??? - is that right? If so, then surely this XFire thing is a deliberate way of forcing people to stay with ATI hardware???

Anyway, just thoughts of someone who knows bugger all about SLI, so I am probably wrong.

sli = 2 of the same nvidia card, no need for master cards, ie, 2 x 7800gt

crossfire = a master card and a normal card, ie, x850xt, and a x850xt crossfire edition, you can however, run any x800/850 card with any x800/850 master card iirc

there is a sapphire X800 crossfire edition, and as well i don't think GTOs need crossfire mastercard to run in crossfire mode, i have heard of HIS X800GTO running XFire without any master, and you definately don't need one according to ATI on new 3200 Xpress boards

I thought that was X1300 and X1600 cards only.

thats one of the biggest features of new chipset, mastercard-less crossfire or so they claim, and as for GTOs they just seem to work for some reason, like X1600s

Cool. :) Anyone want a fantastic overclocking GTO²? ;)

*Shameless plug: Search my threads for MM. :p*

There seem to be a lot of hype over these x800GTO cards doesnt there?

I got one. I got it for my P4 3.6 to try to boost it, cos there was an X700LE in there as stock, and I gave that P4 2GB RAM ( 4xSamsung 512MB ) and the GTO and it still no better than any of my AMDs, some running 9800Pro, and one a 6600GT, and was way slower than the 6800GT in the barton.

So, from my experience so far with it, I have not been at all impressed, which is the main reason for going for a PCI Mobo this time over AGP, as my main Mobo till now, has been the MSI Neo2 Plat as thats taken the x2 4400 jus' peachy

So, obviously, I will be expecting a lot more from this card than the P4 system delivered, otherwise, I might as well have just got myself another Rad9800Pro from the MM and saved half the cash to get piddled instead!

That's because the GTO fits there, unless you were one of the lucky ones who got to unlock a Connect3D GTO. The GTO² was the one that unlocked to X850 XT PE speeds. :)

Yes, its the GTO2 ( I cant do the small number 2 ) Its a saphire one, I got all the instructions to unlock it etc, but as this invalidates the warranty and I have found ATI cards to be the most unreliable piles of junk the last couple of years, there is no way in hell that I iwll bother to attempt any kind of adjusting till its gone past the warranty date.

GTO² - Oh yeah... Thank god for CTRL-C + V eh ? hehe

The Model I have, is that GX-101-SP ... Second from bottom in the OCUK ATI PCI / X800/X850 list... A good one perhaps? Clockable to the **** yes?
