Hi,

I have a Sapphire 5770 Vapor-X, running 10.9 drivers, had it since around Feb, from OcUK. I get an "ati display driver stopped responding and has recovered" msg pop up at least once a day playing games, tried at stock pc and stock gfx settings, same thing, tried 10.8 10.6 10.10, still happened. No BSOD, just a solid colour on the screen for a few secs, then a black screen and... then it's back to normal. This only happens randomly in games, never at desktop/browsing/idle etc and I've gone hours a few times playing without seeing the error, never happens unless a new-ish 3D game is running (played through Deus-Ex recently and never happened, not once).

Same problem with this card when tested in another rig (everything @ stock again) I've tried running the card at lower than stock speeds using GPU Clock Tool, but same ****. Thinking maybe it needs more volts but the voltage is locked and I don't think I can unlock it either.

P.S. If you play WoW then you probably know Phase 4 of the pre-cata launch event went live the other day... I was taking part in this last night - Stormwind City, lots of players in one area... I had the "driver crashed and recovered" error about 15 times in ~1hr  :(

Anyone have/had this problem? Should I just try RMA? Any help appreciated :)

hello there, was experiencing the same exact problem as you when I was trying to overclock my single 5770. A run of MSI afterburner showed that it occured just as the temp touched 95 degrees. It must have an auto mechanism where it stops working to protect the card. Check your temps.

sounds about right If you are on stock clocks and have good cooling.

Don't know what else might be.

About the voltage to unlock, I think you need to edit the afterburner.cfg file in notepad and enable the Unofficialoverclocking.

Quite a few peeps have had that, could be a glitch in the Win7, l'v had it and my 470 does not go over 50'c and its running at 850/1700/200. Since using the latest Nvidea Drivers it has stopped.
