Hi guys, Im not sure if i have posted in the right section, but here is my problem.

I simply cannot get audio from my HDMI output on my 5870 to the HDTV I have.

I have tried the ATI HD Audio driver from the Realktek site. Windows says there is sound output coming out from the HDMI device, however my TV just doesn't output any sound and i do get the video output to the TV no problem.

Any ideas of what other drivers to try or has anyone else out there managed to get audio aswell as video out to their HDtvs with a 5870?

Thanks

I assume that you have selected the relevant hardware in the Control Panel>Sound and Audio Devices>Audio>ATI HD Audio rear output? I don't think "Realtek HD Audio output" is the right one. I couldn't get mine to work either till I did that.

is ati set to default playback in control panel? and also, rightclick the sound on the taskbar then 'open volume mixer', make sure all the bar are set to maximum.

Does ur TV have multiple HDMI inputs? If so make sure you use the primary one (check manual). Because on many of them, only one of the ports (the primary one) supports sound via HDMI

Yep I've got it in the primary socket and win 7 also shows the sound is outputting via Volume mixer

ok while uve did all that while your seleceted film is playing pull out the hdmi lead from the back of your pc ..and plug it straight back in ....you now have sound..

is the settings setup on your tv? ages ago when i pluged my tv in by hdmi it all worked tho cant go over it again as i now run all my sound and video devices by a av receaver

Is the sound output on the tv set correctly?

Some television's require that you set the sound source as well.

Other than that, have you tried a different cable?

Also your not using a DVI to HDMI cable? That won't support sound over it.

Settings are correct because the audio works fine on the PS3. this is deffo a PC software issue i think.

and i have tested the output with another cable and still no sound.

are you using multiple monitors with another set of speakers? - if so you can't have both enabled at the same time. right click speaker icon in task bar and disable the other speakers you have, make sure hdmi is still enabled, if you have any open programmes that use sound restart them and it will then output from hdmi. thats how i set mine up.
