i recently got my nice spanking new 5970 from somewhere, and instalation pretty straight forward however a few things i noticed when running:

Crashes every hour or two (with most up to date drivers)
automatic fan does not pick up the heat from the metal backplate thus overheating occurs pretty much instantly/
Cannot handle any game (crashes after 5 mins of WoW, CoD4, CoD5, BF)

Now im not sure if this is because im running Vista Ultimate 64 Bit or because this peice of hardware is to premature for the drivers. Either way, BIG dissapointment after the price!

If anyone has any input including solutions please by all means add them :)

P.S. my previous card (ASUS GTX295 never crashed this much =/)

EDIT:

My specs are:

AMD X4 965 CPU
Asus M4N82 Deluxe nForce 980a SLi MB
8GB(4X2GB) DDR2
Sapphire 5970 GPU
2x Sata HDD
X-FI Creative FATL1TY SC
Coolermaster V10 Cooler

All running off a Coolermaster 1000w PSU,

How recently did you get it? you can send it back under DSR no point holding onto a card that can't play games.

The 5xxx series seems to be very much rushed and with immature drivers but your problems sound more like a fault.

got it last week from over seas =/
Jus crashed with a bluescreen white writting dump =/ i know from my old 295 i had this problem when drivers were dodgy & when the Multi GPU setting was on in nvid panel but i cant find any settings like this in catalyst so im clueless =/

Switch to Win 7 64bit and use the new 9.12 Hotfix

Also what motherboard and PSU do you have and do you have a thermometer (IR ones are good) that you can take the temp from the back of the card to compare?

Run GPU-Z and check the VDDCI Temps also.

now it wont even turn on, the green lights flashin but no1s in, Nows a good time for me to start researchin RMA ... do i chase after seller or manufacturer? rly dnt wanna av2 post it to hong kong...

Best to RMA it back to the place you bought it from if you only received it last week...

Make 100% sure that the postage you use to return it has full insurance to the value of the card and tracking...

Sapphire UK wont touch it as the serial will trace it back to HK, you'll need to return it to the seller unfortunately .

Sounds like it's just your card. Got mine earlier this week and it's been running fine apart from windows 7 trying to block the drivers installing ><

So you're saying your GTX295 did it too unless you disabled 1 GPU?

If so I'd look to the PSU? the backplate of the 5970 is designed to get hot it's GPU temp that matters.

They are about the same IIRC. They are both around the pci express standard limit of 300w.

Well ive tried running the PC bare minimul stuff and another perfectly good G card, and power is going thru, everythings getting power but nothing goin thru to the screens, i dno if its the mb aswell but my CPU is missing a pin as i jus noticed =/
