I ordered a Sapphire 7950 OC from here after some minor problems (all sorted very effectively by OCUK) I ended up with the Sapphire 7950 Vapour X.

Its my first top end gpu and I thought I'd have a go at OC'ing it. Using TRIXX I've got the GPU up to 1075 and the memory at 1500... but no matter what I did to the VDDC it stays at 950mv - I have now Upped the Power Li to 20 and GPU-Z does now show the VDDC rising a little when the card is benchmarking in HeavenDX11.

I've tried downloading Asus GPU Tweak and that will not give me an option to adjust the VDDC no matter which version I download :( Now I've just read on here that the VapourX is voltage locked... any owners with similar experience?

Me either, aside from the problems I'm having since I got that card (which i fear is more serious issues with the rest of my machine) it is defo voltage unlocked on the stock bios (850/1250).

I have had some success with the 850/1250 bios setting and MSI Afterburner.

I bench Heaven (3.0) DX11 @1920x1200, 4xAA, Anistropy 4x and Teselation;normal

Stock the 7950 gives 56.7fps/1429

As soon as I press the 950/1250 bios setting then the voltage seems to lock and even a mild OC of 1050/1400 benches with Heaven slower that the stock bios?

I had LOTS of strange responses from the card... Heaven would not crash but it would return OC benches of 30fps - It was about to go back, but I pressed on and after a clean install, Cat 12.8 and leaving the bios button alone I've got 1100/1500 but that has needed a VDDC nudge up to 1050mV. If I push over 1050mV for more than 1100, whilst trying to stay sub 60 Deg the fans start to sound like a harrier.

I've currently got a stable OC of 1100/1500 which gives 71.1fps/1792 at 57Deg Max - Can't say its a flyer... and still wondering IF I should go for the Sapphire 7950 OC I originally spec'ed ??

A member of overclock.net unlocked the voltage by flashing the bios with the 7970 Vapor-X bios :)

I'm not sure I want to be doing that just yet, having spent the cash on a 7950... and a Z77 Extreme 4, I5 3750k, Custom cooler, 16Gb Ram, 120Gb SSD, 1Tb WD Black, Haf 912+ and a nice set of case fans  ....cos I can't afford anything else in the next few months if I screw it up :p

so would you reccomend this card after your problems??

As I come from a Skt 939 setup with a pair of 9600GSOxxx SLI my new rig rocks... but the Sapphire VX was a last minute switch 'up', as stock vanished on the Sapphire 7950 OC which I had spent a few hours (or maybe a week or two) researching. All I can say is that the VX is not living up to expectations as the OC's slightly more expensive brother... but its an 'AMD boost' card which may be waiting for software to catch it up...

I've pushed the SappireVX tonight...

bench on HeavenDX11 as before;

VDDC 1140mv @ 1170/1500 gives a stable HeavenDX11 bench of 72.9/1839 at 1920x1200 with 4XAA, normal teselation but the fan noise is growing and I'm hitting 70 deg - Rig has been on for several hours with a restart on GPU-z before each bench - I could do it cooler but GPU Fan has hit 70%...

I'm in a HAF 912+ with the 200mm front and a 140mm side intake - with a 200mm and a 120mm top/rear exhaust fan setup... all controlled via a NZXT Sentry 2... which I can ramp up to 100% but i diddn't want a harrier jump jet in my desk...

add to that I'm running an Ivy I5 3750k at 4.2.... I'd say I've hit the peak - Happy!

Superb ussff!. You must be blown away from the power difference as you've upped the stakes immensely in nearly every department?. All I can say now is to stop playing that game "Heaven 3.0" everyone seems to be addicted to :p (get gaming).

You got the central heating on? :p Mine peaks at about 58C on Heaven at 1.2Ghz and rarely hits 50% fan speed. Maybe I got lucky
