Upgraded from a 660GTX SC edition to Sapphire 7970 OC edition with the dual bios switch on the top. I have done a fresh install but cannot get the card to work properly at all.

My PC is: Giagabyte Z77D3H, i5 2500K (stock atm), 2 x 4GB ram, 500GB hard drive, 480W Tagan PSU which is oldish and I am having to use the molex to 8 pin converters to power the card as the other connectors are the 6 pin ones.

Problem is it keeps saying the driver stopped working but recovered. The only way I can get it to work is to drop the core down from 950Mhz to 945 then it works fine. When I put the switch into position 2 it won't even load 3dMark at all. This happens with games also. I ran Furmark and that was okay. Everything is also up to date.

I didn't really want to change PSU but I was thinking same thing. I did try the card in the other PCI-e slot and it did run for a bit longer but still ultimately crashed. The 660 I have works no problems.

I'm not too sure the Tagan has had it's day just yet. I have a spare PSU which I have just used to power the 7970 alone and the other PSU to power the motherboard etc.... and it was still the same? The other PSU is rated 400W which is surely enough to power a 7970 alone?

Depends on the quality of the PSU and what amps it puts out on the 12V.

Make sure the card is inserted in to the PCI-E slot correctly. I had similar problems with an GTX 680, it was not seated correctly.
