Hi there ,
My 7970 has been acted up lately...
My idle temps usually hover around 29 and 33 degrees... when gaming ( Bf3 , max payne3 ) the temps will stay at a reasonable 68-75 degrees...
Over the last month , when my computer would be left on idle for a while , the screen would go blank ( not always) and the fans on the 7970 would go at full pelt, temps would shoot up to a maximum of 92 degrees...
Yesterday , the computer wouldn't respond at all and I had to switch it off at the power supply.
I am using the 12.5 beta drivers as they are simply give me the smoothest fps on bf3 and max payne 3. This has happened at stock speeds.

corsair vengeance 8 gb

Any thoughts ?
Could this be driver related ?
Something to do with the windows power settings?
Is something wrong with my card ? contacted Sapphire support but they are not responding...
I mean a part from that ... the card has been truly fantastic... would be a real shame to send it back
