Sapphire getting cheap?(mining)

Hi there i just got another sapphire 280x toxic today and was gutted to see they have replaced the brilliant Hynix memory with the not so great Elpida .
I thought these toxics were meant to be the cream of the crop for 280's but it would appear sapphire are cutting costs :(

Anyway i now have 2 toxic 280's one that does 800+kh/s and one that i cant get over 650.

the bios revision is 015.043.000.005.000000

Does anyone know if anything can be done to increase hashrate,or should i(if even possible)send the card back under dsr and try to find one with Hynix memory,or even get a tri-x version if they come with hynix?

i would also consider maybe the tri-x 290 if it has the better memory.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks

Nico.

I can attest first-hand that the Sapphire R9 290/290 X Tri-Xes all have Hynix memory.

This TechPowerUp article shows that all of this series of cards have Hynix rated for 6000MHz so there is a potential for 20% (5000MHz --> 6000MHz) memory performance to be unlocked easily.

I would have thought that this Sapphire R9 290 would serve you best for mining as its price-performance ratio is pretty impressive, especially once you do the memory overclock.

Hi thanks for the reply, i have looked at that card before and it does seem a good deal, the thing i worry about with that card though is the fact it comes with no overclock.

This kinda makes me think sapphire use the lowest grade chips for these cards then the next best for the oc and so on. so it may not be a very good clocker

Still not happy with sapphire really as it was kind of sneaky move with no announcement or anything, and as one of the most expensive 280x's i would think they would use nothing but the best components.

Perhaps stick this thread in the mining board?
