Sapphire HD 4890 Atomic

Isnt the Toxic the exact same card as the Atomic, just factory overclocked higher? As a result, we could pay less $$ and OC ourselves?

I'm probably wrong here, and am basing this on what Intel have allegedly done (in the past)...but I *think* that the manufacturers know which chips have been produced with the most precision - meaning they can be pushed further/faster than poorer-quality chips.

Intel Celerons were supposedly the same as P4 or whatever, except not made quite so well and couldn't reach the speeds.

So you get the best chips, overclock them faster than usual, sell for more $$. Win.

The rest of the chips that just run at specification speeds are left for the mid-lower range. You may well be able to overclock it, but since you're starting with an inferior chip to begin with your gains will probably be more limited than the atomic ones.

Like I said, this could be complete drivel, but it made sense to me.

I'm starting to think there is no point waiting for the Toxic any more if rumors are true we will be getting DX11 cards at the end of the year from ATI anyway.

The Toxic is available on [US Competitor Here] but I have seen no sign of it in the UK.

Is The Atomic Worth the 235 pound asking price?

£234.99 inc

Oofff! that's really full whack!

I guess something is only worth what someone else will pay for it, add to that it's a fresh product thats just going on launch so that drives the price right up!

I'd hope to see that card selling for £199 within a few weeks! :p

I think so ... current reviews put performance equal to (and sometimes beating) a GTX 285. For a heavily overclocked GPU, its also got a much quieter & slightly cooler fan/heatsink than a normal 4890.
