Sapphire or msi 290x reference.

The MSI has a longer warranty (3 year versus 2 year).

Will you be watercooling it? If not, I'd get a non-reference 290 over a reference 290X any day of the week.
 
Fair enough, then. Neither company will void the warranty when you remove the cooler, so you're good with either on that score. MSI would get my vote for the longer warranty.
 
Yea the sapphire is just a reference card with a really good cooler on it and they also have done a good job with their bios too but the MSI as far as im aware has upgraded components and 3 year warranty so you've made the right choice for water cooling imo :)
