Hi,

I've just installed my new Sapphire X1900XT graphics card today with the latest ATI 6.6 drivers (my first ever ATI card). I fired up Counter Strike Source, the game seems to run OK but not great. The bots begin to judder about - jerky movements, the same happens when I'm throwing a grenade... etc...

I am sure this isn't meant to happen. Everything is at stock. And I'm also running a new installation of Windows XP.

How can I resolve this? I've also installed AMD's latest dual core patch. My previously RMA'd 7900GT (560/1650) did not suffer from this.

Which level of CS? I've just received my Sapphire x1900xt card today and installed it too! Tried it out in 1680x1050 in HL2 and it runs peachy :) Haven't tried CS yet as not a massive player of it, but could test it out too?

Previously had a geforce2mx installed, and this is also my first ATI card, running WinXP x64 with latest 6.6 drivers (didn't clean drivers as cleaned them from my Vista install but forgot about x64 :o )

Have you tried seeing if the same problem happens online too? Just downloading HL2:Lost Coast level to see how purdy it looks, but I'll try the level in question out if you let me know which it is :)

OK... there's some serious misconfiguration here.

My 3DMark06 score is now 3393. My 7900GT did 5400.

Hmm... I can't understand what's the problem. Maybe I should use "driver cleaner"... what's the URL for this application?

I'm running the card at stock settings at 1280x1024 (max res)... I'm hoping driver cleaner will resolve this issue.

Are there anything else which I should consider that may have caused this dip in performance?

My Spec:

AMD 4400+ X2 @ stock
2GB G.Skill RAM
DFI NF4 Ultra-D

use GOOGLE, but to be honest you would be better off re-installing windows when changing brands of graphics cards

Well this is what I got:

3393

SM2.0 = 1601
HDR/SM3.0 = 1743
CPU = 656

CPU score looks a pretty poor. :rolleyes:

Will try driver cleaner.

When I installed the 6.6 drivers, I assumed I didn't need to adjust any of the settings in there?

your problem lies with the cpu.

my old mobile barton at 2.5ghz scored 900 on the cpu test.
dual core cpus are supposed to dominate 3dm06 so your problem lies directly with your cpu.

either its throttling under the heat.
or you have not applied the dual core patch to your system.

either way your gfx card can be eliminated from this situatiuon, although im not sure what has caused the issue here since your 7900gt was working fine, if you reinstalled the os since then then that is where your problem lies.

Seems it was the old Nvidia drivers or something messing it up.

This score seems more realistic 5390. :)

And the card isn't that noisy either, it's actually more quieter than the 7900GT. :)

Yeps... it hasn't made much difference playing locally against bots. But will try online in a minute to test my system out. :cool:
