What would be the best bang-for-bucks AGP to replace an X800 which has recently died?

Cheers crew

I was thinking of something like:

BFG GeForce 7600GS 512MB or Sapphire X1600 Pro 512MB £105?

I think the 7600GS might actually be slower than your old X800 as the 7600GS is only slightly faster than a 6600GT.

I would personally get this card ... faster than the 7600GS & your old X800 ..

PowerColor ATI Radeon X800 GTO 256MB DDR3 TV-Out/DVI (AGP) - OEM (GX-050-PC) Price: £99.95 (£117.44 Including VAT at 17.5%)

Found in the clearance section here ...

as the guy above notes, dont go for the 7600GS, its slower than your old card.

go for one of these from the this week only section.

BFG 3DFuzion GeForce 7600 GT £88inc VAT

or if you really want some extra power,

Connect3D ATI Radeon X1800 XT 256MB GDDR3 £149 inc vat.

7800GS 256mb

I got it, And it canes up every game I have on my Athlon 2500 with 1.5gb of RAM.

FEAR, Battlefield 2, COD2 etc...

Wrong, you got a 6800gs, a very different breed.

I would advise either buying a second hand 6800GT (They're slightly better than GS's) or waiting out for the AGP 7600GT which will hold great value for money.

Thanks for the helpful replies lads.

My short list is now as follows:

PowerColor ATI Radeon X800 GTO 256MB £117
BFG GeForce 7800 GS OC 256MB £187

6800GT 256MB (2nd hand - price?)
7600GT AGP (when is it out and how much will it be?)

How much should I expect to pay for a 2nd hand 6800GT dude?

If you can wait though then I'd hold out until the 7600gt arrives as a good value card and either get that (Will be lush) or take advantage of the the fact that the 6800GT's will be cheaper too :p

No particular brands to avoid really. Leadtek ones don't use the reference cooler (which is pretty noisey), so that might be something to look in to (Not actually sure if leadtek hsf's are any quieter or better)

Thanks dude.

Is the 7600GT due out soon? Any idea of price?

No idea when it's out (I'm hoping within the next month), but it should be around £130 bearing in mind the PCI-E version is £115. This is a total guess mind :o

X800 GTO 256MB £117

Depends really, got a 6800GT at the moment so if it performs a great deal better then yep, I might be. Also depends if 939 is still in stock.
