In westerns you always hear the cowboys order a 'Sasparilla' in the saloon. What is it? Is it some form of alcoholic beverage? I've had a bit of a google and can't find anything on it.

Try Googling for sarsaparilla;)

Edit: As you did :o It's a smelly tropical root of sorts:)

So did the cowboys chew on the root? I always thought it was a drink.

It's a cordial, or at least that's the for I have it in. Similar in colour and taste to flat coke, but slightly anniseedy and not sweet.

I reckon you could describe it as liquid liquorice but it's no-where near as strong.

OOI, what is the connection between this drink and the north east 'geordie' area of the country? whenever relatives go up to that kind of area they bring some back, just seems kinda odd that its not available elsewhere

Dandelion & Burdock is available from your Local Milkman in Windsor for 39p for a litre bottle:)

Didn't realise that. I don't have a milkman though, don't drink milk at all. :)
