Went to Sat Bains last night with the missus, probably the best restaurant I have ever been to

The place is stuck in the middle of nowhere, looks like an old farmhouse or similar, it's a very small place probably 15 tables maximum, for a weekend you need to book 2-3 months on advance

There are only 2 menu options, a 7 course and a 10 course tasting menu

There are a couple of optional extras, the 63C poached duck egg didhs that he is famous for ( the only dish ever to get 3 scores of 10 on the Great British Menu Program ) and a cheese course, we went for both these extras :)

for wines we had a bottle of 2010 Sameirás, Ribeiro, Antonio Cajide Gulin, Galicia, Spain and then a bottle of 2009 Verdejo 'Cien x Cien', Finca la Colina, Rueda, Spain

There was an Amuse Bouche first bit I forgot to take a pitcure of this, was a small dish made from ingredients found growing wild on the lane leading up to the restaurant

Dish 1 - Scallop with belly pork - satay - teriyaki
superb- thought teh satay might have been overpowering but was really subtle

Dish 2 - Fish Pie

very traditional tbh but absolutely superb

exceptionally rich, Foie Gras like - poss a bit too rich

Dish 4 - The Egg, ham and peas dish

as good as I expected the egg yolk was very think and I have no idea how you make peas taste that good

Dish 5 - Organic Salmon - barssicas - onion juice

The salmon was raw - not the best dish but ok , the small pieces of roasted cauliflower were very good

Dish 6 - Waldorf Salad - simple but very good

Dish 7 - Fallow Deer - roast roots - thyme - chocolate

absolutely superb - the deer was very tender and it all went together very well

Dish 8 - "the Crossover" - sorbet type thingy :p

Dish 9 -Cheese course - only 1 cheese but there was a choice - I went for an English Brie which was very strong - sorry but had eaten half of it before I remembered to take a pic :p

Dish 10 - Rhubard and custard

Rhubard was not as sharp as I was expecting

CIMG0109.jpg

Dish 11 Chocolate - coffee tweels - olive and balsamic

the chocolate mousse was absolutely amazing

Dish 12 - Sea Buckthorn - pine - meringue

the cheesecakey tpye thing was mentally sharp tasting - finished things off nicely

Afterwards we went into the Kitchen and met Sat, good to see the "celeb" chef actually there and cooking unlike many other places. he was a really great, down to earth bloke, the kitchen is very small with loads of chefs working away

May I ask how long you spent there? Did each dish come after the previous or were some bought out at the same time? :)

we were in for about 3-3.5 hours, the dishes came one at a time but at one point we did ask for a bit of a break and they were fine with it:)
