Going to purchase a sat nav in the next week and need your help to pick the best one?
I have narrowed it down to these two which are ,
tom tom xl classic uk with traffic.
tom tom iq sat nav -uk & roi.

Another question is will they both work in my mondeo 2005 bearing in mind it has a front heated windscreen?

thanks mondo.

In all honesty I've got nothing good to say about tom tom, dire cs, dire website that sends you endless spam that you can't opt out of, new maps that are overpriced And out of date on release and hardware that crashes all the time and takes 20 mins to find a sat.

You will ofc get conflicting opinions but from me: AVOID.

On the other hand we use tom toms for work and have the classic and I can say they are brilliant. very rarely have I got lost with it.

Get the clasic and enjoy it. I have a Tom Tom Rider V2 which I use on the motorbike. My satnav worked fine in the front of a freelander which had heated windscreen.

I would stick with the factory PCM system in your 911, its better having an integrated system really.

Its absolutely rubbish. Even with the updated disk its still no good.

Get one of those dash mount round stick on things if your worried about the heated screen on the Mondeo, cant see it being a problem though.

Depends which features you think you'll really need. Out of those two I'd have the IQ for the extra features.

However, you should also consider a Navigon 4310, if you look around you can get it for just £119 and it has loads of features, 2 years of free map updates and one of the best map layouts around with lane assist, etc.

Taken my Tom Tom IQ XL round the world and it's never let me down, map updates are a bit pricey but I get no email what so ever from them.

I couldn't disagree more with every single word of your post :).

We have 2 TomTom's in the family and they are utterly fantastic.

Yeah, I appreciate that everyone will have differing opinions on them, Ours have just been no end of grief since we got them, Nottingham's 1 way system for example is still out of date now 8 years after they changed it.

The emails I got were last year, just constant 3 or 4 a day with vouchers that were unredeemable against anything other than a new device, I tried speaking to CS about it and opened a ticket and they suggested I un tick the "receive emails from us" option in the acc settings, the thing was it had never been ticked in the first place and yet they still kept emailing me. In the end I had to threaten them with reporting them to the information commissionaire for repeated unsolicited emails and their response to that was to simply delete my entire account with them rendering the whole device useless ( i can no longer update it due to it telling me the device has already been registered to a different acc ).

Have spoken to CS again about it and they wont release the device and tell me to log in to my acc to do it, since I no longer have an acc as they deleted it I'm trapped in a loop. Its no bad thing though as, like I say the thing was next to useless anyway, from turning it on you would often reach your destination before it even found a sat and would just sit there "searching".

Parents have the same model as I do and theirs did exactly the same ( I say did as they bought a garmin when in the USA ). Reading on the net it seems there was borked update some time ago that caused it, but like I said I cant do anything with it, it was a 920 series as well and cost about £300 at the time, its a paper weight now lol, Just unlucky I guess.
