I am looking at getting a sat nav and have a budget around £100 mark, although this can be stretched to a degree.

I have looked at Garmins and the one i have used i got on with very well, although the cost of the map updates puts me off somewhat.

What are the TomToms like? Obviously the can't be that bad, but they do strike me as a bit cheap in terms of the display and quality of the maps.

Can anyone offer any advice as i don't really know what i am looking for.

Cheers

Other than go to somewhere that has them on display that you can play with theres not much to add.

Ive got the tomtom one btw, its ok does its job without anything special.

Think i've said this a few times already...i should really stop sounding like a tomtom fanboy tbh :p

I recently bought a tomtom 520 for £103 delivered and just updated the firmwire + maps free of charge making it have the exact same functions as the 540 that costs hundreds. Seemed by far the best deal i could see which is why i got it.

I have the Garmin 255TW (4.3" wide) and it has never let me down. The 205W I had before it also never let me down but wanted something with a faster refresh rate so got the 255.

No nonsense features, just good navigation and audio direction :)

The TomTom Go x20 range are the best value for money around at the moment IMO. TomTom are also tend to provide updates for their older models to a far greater degree than other manufacturers.
