Sata 3.0 hard drive

Hi guys,
Can someone please just confirm the compatability of sata rev 3 for me. for example will a sata 2 hd work on a sata 3 board and vice versa as in sata 3 drive on a sata 2 board

Can I just query that guys? So..sata 2 hard drives will work on sata 3 ports?

I know that sata 3 hd's are backwards compatible with sata 2 ports, but I didn't realise it was the other way round too

The SATA standard is backwards compatible which means a SATA III drive will work at the speed of a SATA II drive but not the other way around.

It's backwards compatible to both ways.

(both controller and HDD accept older standard part in other end of cable)

But if one of the parts (HDD or port) is Sata2 then it's limited to Sata2 speeds..
