I have a OCZ modstream PSU, its modular, and only provides power for 2 SATA devices:

This was fine when I built the PC, I had 1 HD and the DVD-RW on it, but now ive ordered a new HD and need more power.
Ive got hold of this:

I want to take the 6 pin block of the new one, remove the 2nd unbraided sata plug thing, and then daisy chain it from the original one.

Is this possible? I cant work out how to disconnect the Sata bits and how to put them back on. Also is it possible to power three devices from the one cable, i know the 12V rail has the juice just having them on 1 cable and socket on the PSU, any one got ideas?

[I know you can get a molex to sata power converter, i ordered one temporarily, but want it to look cleaner as it has a side window :) ]

Theres only square socket, and i already have the top cable powering two devices, and hence want to incorporate the 2nd in a daisy chain to power three devices.

Get rid of the 6 pin block, and join the 5 wires into the existing SATA connection so there would be three devices that could be powered of the cable, and am going to cut off the un-braided cable.

(The bottom part of the picture is of one cable showing both ends)

anyone know where to buy the SATA power connectors on their own? I can only find cables ready made, any help appreciated.

molex - sata adaptor is about the best you are gonna get.

Ive ordered one, but i dont want to just have to put up, ive removed the second unbraided SATA cable, and removed the 6pin molex, now im planning to solder it into the old power cable as i cant find another way of doing it.

Im lucky, my corsair power cables have plenty of sata on them. Plus, you can pull the right angled plugs off the cable and move them about (they are IDC-like connections). Just tape over the 'cuts' left by the plug. Shame the molex ones were not the same.

Grrr im having real problems with this one, im scared if i solder the connections i might short circuit the power supply and cause real damage to everything else, especially as i know i have one of those cheap converters aswell....

As long as you get the correct cables to the correct plugs and insulate each joint (I use heatshrink as it gives a better finish), you wont have a problem. It goes without saying to make sure its disconnected from the wall first . . . ;)

:) basically going to get some one at my dads workplace to solder it up, and then hot glue gun over the solders to insulate, they are already heat shrink wrapped.
