sata cable with mob work with sata 2 hd?

i got an asus a8n-e and it comes with sata cables.. would they work with a sata 2 hd? or would i have to get an akasa sata 2 cable?

Because that way they hope to scare people into buying something that isn't strictly necessary (Very small if any performance gain), and that will make them a tidy amount of money.
