Hi guys,

Just put my first build together - all fired up nicely but i cannot get the BIOS to recognise the SATA hard drive i have in there. Just for my own piece of mind - how many cables should be attached to the SATA hard drive?

rechecked the bios to see that sata is enabled?
put your ear to the hdd to check that it is actually getting/using power ?

You sure you don't have RAID enabled?

Not 100% sure, but I'd guess the drives would show in the RAID BIOS, and the RAID array/s would show in the BIOS.

I would consider updating the BIOS if you have an older BIOS than the latest one shown on the Asus website. Just in case there are any bugs ironed out in the newer one.

Also if your drive is SATA 2 but the motherboard is only SATA 1, check the back of your drive, it may have a jumper that needs to be changed for it to run on older SATA1 motherboards.

Hmmm, there doesn't appear to be much noise (if any) coming from the hard drive if i'm honest. It's a Samsung Spinpoint 400Gb. I know they're supposed to be very quiet - but this is silent, i think lol!

by sata 3 i think he means sata 3gb/s which is the transfer speed for sata 2, i didnt realise it was the mobo in your sig, i withdraw my suggestion is it is obviously sata 2 compatible motherboard :)

Does it hum or vibrate at all? Are you sure it's even turning on? Even if the mobo didn't see it or anything it would still spin up as long as it had power.

try a different sataa power cable or a different molex
from the psu i mean
it may be a faulty power connector from the psu
