Sata detection problems

Hi Guys,

I bought this motherboard 2 months or so ago

MSI 790FX-GD70 AMD 790FX

today i bought both an Antec 902 Nine Hundred Two Ultimate Gaming Case and a OCZ ModXStream 780W SLI Ready Modular Power Supply.

I have the following hard drives also:

1 TB Samsung F1, 1TB Western Digital Green, 320GB Western Digital Caviar Black and a Samsung 128GB SSD (the latter 5.25" 2 in a backplane system)

before i bought the case i had an antec skeleton chassis. Today i started work on changing the case over from the Antec Skeleton to the Antec 902 case., this was painless and suprisingly quick.

However when i started the pc up, none of the drives were being detected. The cd rom would be detected in one sata port but would not read, i know it would not read because it would not allow me to start booting windows vista 64 from CD.

I dont know what the problem is, i have been hearing talk about jumper settings but the thing is that i have not changed anything since changing the parts over and everything worked fine in the Skeleton chassis. I just cant work it out, even the bios settings are the same.

Can anyone shed any light on this please? as my only logical conclusion is that the sata controller is dead but if so why does it detect the CDrom but not boot from it?

thanks,

cables plugged out silighty? SATA are a pain in the neck

I m having issues with my ramage again -.- oh well

well, i've had the idea (or ballache) of stripping down the entire system and rebuilding it completely piece by piece to try and isolate where the crashes begin.

Turns out that i was using some of the wrong cables and that the ocz doesn't like having any cables used with it other than the ones it came with.

After sorting all of that out i've now got another problem. The 8 pin psu cable causes my pc to switch off/power down when i connect the 8 pin connector to the motherboard which is strange since around 3 hours ago that connector was working fine.

I think that i may have to return the psu since without that connector working i might be very very screwed. I don't even know if i have any other problems since i have not dared to try and run the pc without that cable attached to the mainboard. and to cap it all off it had to blow at the weekend when ocuk don't run the rma section and when i've just sold my xbox 360 cos i didn't think that i needed it anymore.

I just sorted out my system, one of the HDDs was dead and the BIOS was seeing it but could use it and it nubed up the boot up :\

I treat my back up maxise 2 formular and the cpu pins are bent  no idea how that happened, so not my 24hours a hdd and a mobo and a pretty expesnive one too -.-

oddly enough my max 2 formular did the same what yours is doing with a 8pin

i'm having that problem aswell with my drives, for some reason vista installed the bootmgr file on another drive rather than the one i installed windows to but, this just got stranger amg. I dumped the msi board and downgraded to an asrock am2+ board with 1GB ddr2 memory... talk about a kick in the nuts.

now my cd drive is being detected but not read from, even when vista is in the tray and only the 2 2.5" laptop HDD's are being detected and read from but both of my 1TB drives are not being detected which is exactly what was happening in the MSI board.

I'm at a loss, i just don't know what to do? can a psu blow 2 perfectly good, very recent 1TB drives? and i don't think that even the cdrom is blown since i can hear the cd turning in the tray.

well I found out my HDD had died on me oddly I ve got it sorted as for the maxumise 2 formular well I m not sure with the CPU pins are meant so i don't know why it turns on and off.

the mobo got *stuck* on post i throught it was my ramapge being a ass again

you might beable to lfash your BIOS on that asrock cos that is odd
