I'm trying to install XP on a new WD 320gb Scorpio Blue drive in my laptop, however I'm having big problems. The installation recognises the drive and copies the files across, but after a restart I get the XP loading screen followed by a BSOD. It gives me the codes:

0x0000007B (0xF78A6524, 0XC0000034, 0x0000000000, 0x0000000000)

I gather this means that XP cannot access the drive in some way (though it loads the splash screen which suggests something is working...).

Can anyone point me in the right direction? All this carry on with trying to find the right SATA drivers is driving me mad.

It's an Acer Aspire 5103 laptop and I'm guessing I'm not slipstreaming the right drivers on to the disk.

Do Vista and 7 require the SATA drivers or can they be installed without worrying about them? 7 is available at a discount through Uni and I'll pick it up if there is no need for slipstreaming etc.

Any BIOS settings for the SATA? Depending on the machine you can usually pick to run in AHCI mode or good old IDE emulation.

If I select SATA mode in bios my XP bluescreens as in OP altho I have 1 SATA drive & 1 IDE drive installed, It'll only load windows with IDE mode selected regardless of which drive I select to load ( both drives have Win XP on )

Since you've already done slipstreaming sp3, I won't have to explain too much..

Download this
http://driverpacks.net/applications/latest

Download 'mass storage' from here
http://driverpacks.net/driverpacks/latest

Start again with a fresh XP disc, slipstream SP3 (using nlite)

Close nlite

Now run that app above, it'll extract to a folder, now open dp_base.exe, and slipstream the mass storage drivers into the XP disc

once that is done

reopen nlite and just pick 'build ISO'

Personally, I'd just put w7 on it though :)

I finally got the right set of drivers and booted XP. :)

W7 is tempting though, however I don't know whether my computer will be up to spec? I was disappointed with Vista's performance hence the switch back to XP within a couple of months.
