Just downloaded the sata drivers for the xp install. do i just copy the file onto a floppy?

the motherbaord is the gigabyte p35c-dsr3.

cheers

Are you installed the hard drives as a Raid array? If not then you probably don't need the drivers at all because a new motherboard such as that will just 'fool' Windows into accepting the drives. :)

//edit but yes you might either copy the drivers to floppy disk or run the program which will copy the drivers onto a floppy disk (I don't know offhand which option Gigabyte uses).

ok cheers mate. I suppose i could set up a raid array, what are the advantages of this?

Speed if you choose RAID0 (striping) or data protection if you choose RAID1 (mirroring). You could also get both by using RAID 10 or 0+1 (depending on which the mobo offers). Ideally you need HDDs that are identical but 'close' will do.

The general rule is, if you don't know what a raid array is, dont do it. If you have more than 1 drive when your ready to install Windows onto your machine, you will be fine without your raid drivers. They are only needed if you're going to setup a raid from the word go.
