i have ordered my new motherboard ram and processor. i just wanted to know with regards to sata drives. i have 2 300gb drives that came in my old prebuilt system so ive never touched them really. i wanted to know with Asus P8P67-M Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 MicroATX Motherboard it has sata 3gb and 6gb but how will i go about installing my 2 sata drives when i get to it? im ok with most other stuff and im sure its relativly straight forward but i would like some advice please.

I'm not sure if I've quite fully understood your question. If you mean installing them on to the motherboard, then all you do is get a SATA cable and connect that to the hard drive and to one of the sata ports on the motherboard. You'll also have to have a PSU with SATA power cables, otherwise you'll have to get a molex to sata power cable in order to power the drive.

Will these just be used as storage?

Just plug them into the sata 2 ports on the board and windows should pick them up.

Plug them into any SATA port, SATA3 (6gbps) only really matters for SSD's, it wont make a difference for your drives.

Also you may have to go into computer management --> disk management and initialize the drives and make some other changes to them.

thanks, i was just kinda confused as to the differences from 3gb and 6gb.

if i plug them into the 3gb ports i should be ok?

i think one is master and has my os on and main storage and the other is just a slave and for storage. will they still just connect to 3gb ports and power badda badda boom?

Yup. Plug them into any port.

Get em in, during the Win7 install, one of the first options is to do a custom install (unless you are doing an "upgrade"?), this then shows the drives and partitions, just delete everything.

Continue the install and it will either show the second drive as D: or you may have to go into Disk Management and create a partiton/logical drive, then it will show up.
