Sata HDD shown as USB driver

Im getting system hangs during heavy loads, i have stopped overclocking my GPU and have lowered my CPU speed but this has not helped. It could be due to my new ram but i dont know for sure. I ran Memtest for about 2 hours and it gave no errors so i think the ram is ok.

I have checked windows event viewer and under the application tab, it had one of the errors:

Descriptioin: The device Root\LEGACY_TAT\0000 disappeared from the system without first being prepared for removal.

I checked further to see a possible solution and i found this under windows help:

If the system becomes unstable or the device does not work properly the next time you install it, close all programs and restart the computer.

In the future, click the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the taskbar notification area and stop the device before removing it. The Safely Remove Hardware icon is automatically displayed in the taskbar notification area whenever a removable device is installed.

Now, i have used the option 'Safely Remove Hardware' and have removed my USB drive but also in the list are my sata HDDs, why are they there? Is this causing hangs? If so, how could i get rid of it.

Hey, I've got my sata drives showing up as removable usb drives as well! I always wondered why but never bothered to ask why.

I only noticed it when i moved to an Nforce4 board (sig in specs). Havn't got any problems with stability though...

SATA drives are hot plug and play, if you have the right controller and drivers. Whenever the plug and play criterior is met, the SATA drives get added to the removeable hardware list, just like a USB device, to give windows a chance to finish saving files, and clearing the write cache before you remove the disk.

Its perfectly normal, and safe.

If you dont like it, then look to see if the bios has an option to run the SATA controller as a legacy IDE device, it will still run at full speed, but it will disable NQC, and Hot Plug ability.
