sata II HDD on a sata III controller ?

As i dont have a sata III SSD *still saving up* yet i was wondering is there any benefit of running a sata II HDD from a sata III socket or does it just downscale to sata II ?

There is no difference whatsoever. It is exactly the same.

If you install a SATA 2 HDD in a SATA 3 port then connection is limited by the lower-spec SATA connection (ie the sata2 hdd) so it will be no faster than running in a native SATA2 port.
