I have been wondering do the cabels actually make any difference to SATA I to SATA II to SATA III ?

Surely it is the same amount of wires and connectors ?

Nope- a SATA cable is a SATA cable, although some may be made better than others, there's only one standard which works for SATA I, II and III.

Wires are the same but the chips on the ends of the wires aren't. Each SATA version just sends signals differently.

SATA 3 cables are possibly better quality though most cables will work fine up to SATA 3 speeds.

Occasionally you do see someone having problems getting the full speed using a cheap cable.

So why do there seem to be different versions of the same thing, or is it a scam :O haha

Its all down to making money i suppose if you search google theres a few tests done with different cables and there conclusion that it makes no difference and the only difference i have found is that some makes of cables give that slight extra speed than other makes.

I have had some old sata 2 cables which gave me 5mb extra speed over the sata 3 cables that came with my Asus z68 motherboard.
