SATA Installation Question

I have an old PC that has an IDE drive with Windows XP installed on it. When I installed XP I did not install the SATA drivers during setup as I did not have any SATA drives to connect at the time.
Several years down the line I am in a position where I have a SATA drive with data on it that I would like to access using the said old PC.

The motherboard came with drivers to install SATA during XP setup, however I can't find any drivers to retrofit once XP has been installed.

Is what I'm trying to achieve actually possible without doing a fresh installation of XP on the IDE drive?

You shouldn't have to reinstall Windows just to get SATA working. There must be a stand alone installation file for Windows once it's installed. Let me have a look for you.

Thanks, however problem now solved. Apparently I needed to install the RAID drivers. :rolleyes:

If you just want to grab some off the drive you don't need any drivers, only need drivers if your going to do RAID.

Not necessarily. Many older SATA contollers need drivers regardless of whether they're running in RAID mode or not.
