A friend of mine has encountered a problem with his PC, and we are sure it is a motherboard issue. The main problem is once a disc has been put into the drive, it will read it and play normally, but if you eject it and then put the same disc or another disc back in, it will make a funny sound and the PC will lock up. We told OC about the problem, and we bought a new disc drive a different make, yet the same problem occured. after a while we tore the computer up and took the mobo in to OC for testing, they tested it and said they encountered the problem, they gave us a new one and the same problem is still happening.

We both think that it was the sata ports on the Mobo, but as it has happened again we are not sure what it could be, or wether there was a bad batch. but i have the P5K in my system and dont have the problem.

Also when getting a new motherboard, even if its the same make, do you have to re-install windows, because the new mobo we got we did not have to re-install or change anything in the bios it booted up as it did with the old mobo.

Specs
Asus P5K mobo
E4500 (allendale)
G.Skill 4GB DDR2 PQ PC2-6400C5
ATI HD3870
500gb WD HDD

No you don't have to reinstall windows.
The CD/DVD drive sounds a little strange. I guess it doesn't happen if it was an IDE varient?
